Overall Review: After doing some investigating, it turns out that some NVidia chipsets on motherboards do not take kindly to using ATI graphics cards. That was only for the first Generation of Black Edition 6850's.

And NO, for this model, there is NO bios update available. Unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. So I went ahead and ordered a brand new power supply from Newegg. It worked OK, but I eventually had the same problem again. They tested and sent me a brand new card. Eventually, the new tech gave me an RMA and I sent the card back to XFX. I was astonished, but the next day another tech contacted me and created a new ticket for me and was actually helpful and was willing to try to troubleshoot the problem. The tech responded back by just closing my ticket. I told him I was using an Antec 550W and that couldn't be the problem. When I contacted XFX regarding the problem, the first tech said it was my power supply. and transcoding videos seem to be at about the same speed.Ĭons: The problems I've had with this card is about half the times when I turn on my computer the fan comes on at 100% speed and the display does not turn on. but the framerates are not that much faster (maybe 5-10 at most). I've compared some of the games I play and "maybe" I can get away with a couple of settings kicked up a notch. Performance wise, there really is NOT that much of an increase when compared to my older 8800 GTS-512MB. Pros: This is my second review for this card and I thought I should share some info after owning this for a few weeks. Does seem to be alittle cooler but I've had 0 problems with them so far. I did notice that the cooler design inside changed from my first 6850 from the flower design to the copper heat pipe design. Overall Review: Once again Thank you Newegg n Thank you Xfx! Im still very happy with dual 6850's performance. Fps are about the same?.but I had the same issure with my old 9800gx2's.even in Quad sli! Obviously its not optimized for it but thats ok I guess. This all runs with the phenom2 945 oc 3.5ghz,8gigs gskill sniper ddr3 oc to 1600mhz,biostar crossfire t870 mobo, killer 2100, and a soudblaster fatality card and 1tb western digital caviar black hdd.Ĭons: Call of Duty Black Ops did seem to be affected by crossfire at all so far.

Crysis 2 dx11 everyting max 1080p was about 50-65fps, once n while would drop to about 30 for a sec. Not to mention it was nice seeing bfbc2 go from around 50-60fps to about 95-120fps. So I couldn't help but get another and that was the cure for those 2 games. Pros: Great cards in Crossfire X! To be honest 1 card maxed out just about everything until I got Metro 2033 and the Crysis 2 dx11 upgrade. Shame on you XFX, long time customer and very disappointed. I'm pretty sure due to the process they have to hand out VERY FEW copies. XFX makes it next to impossible to actually get it. Overall Review: For anyone looking to buy this card for the free game, lots of luck to ya.

Drivers update constantly, and by the time you get the card, the drivers are likely 2 or 3 sets behind. First thing you do when you open that box is throw away the disk. ALWAYS go to the site and get the latest drivers.

You should NEVER, EVER install drivers off of the disk. I think they figured only enthusiasts would buy the Black Edition and did not think it necessary.ĥ. But again, you are right, they should have thrown one in there. I thought the stickers were a nice touch, and not having a bridge did not really bother me since i have about 8 laying around. The fan is quite loud on this card, you are right.Ĥ. 100C is known to be the max for most GPU'sģ. My old HD4890 ran at 85C all day every day for 3 years.
It seems cards are progressing faster than monitors these days, or else nobody is upgrading their monitors.Ģ. You are right, it should come with an adapter.
